Bistek: A Flavorful and Juicy Filipino Beef Steak Dish with Onion and Soy Sauce

Thinly sliced beef cooked with onions, soy sauce, and calamansi juice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. beef sirloin, sliced thinly
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup calamansi juice or lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 2 medium-sized onions, sliced into rings
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, calamansi juice or lemon juice, water, and brown sugar. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Marinate the beef in the mixture for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a pan, heat the cooking oil over medium heat.
  4. Fry the onion rings until they become translucent. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add the marinated beef and cook until it turns brown.
  6. Pour the marinade into the pan and bring it to a boil.
  7. Simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the sauce has thickened and the beef is tender.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Top the beef with the fried onion rings.
  10. Serve hot with steamed rice. Enjoy!
