Community Sub-Project in Guimaras: Concreting of Local Access Road at Malbang-Lamnig Section

One of the ways DSWD is fulfilling this goal is through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program. This program empowers communities by providing them with the resources and technical assistance they need to plan, implement, and manage their own development projects. Through KALAHI-CIDSS, communities are able to identify their own needs and prioritize which projects to implement, with the guidance of DSWD.

In Lamnig, Barangay San Isidro Sibunag, Guimaras, the community identified the need for a concreted local access road. The unpaved road made it difficult for residents, farmers, and students to travel, especially during the rainy season. The community proposed the project, and it was approved for funding by KALAHI-CIDSS.

The total project cost was Php 2,580,000.00, and the breakdown of the budget was as follows: KALAHI-CIDSS Grant (Php 1,659,752.20), MLGU Contribution In-kind (Php 378,337.00), MLGU Contribution Cash (Php 524,560.80), BLGU Contribution In-kind (Php 10,000.00), and BLGU Contribution Cash (Php 7,350.00).

The concreting of the local access road at the Malbang-Lamnig section will provide a safer and more convenient route for the community. It will improve access to schools, healthcare facilities, and other essential services, thereby promoting economic growth and social development.

The success of this sub-project is a testament to the effectiveness of the KALAHI-CIDSS program in empowering communities to address their own development needs. Through collaborative efforts between the community, local government units, and DSWD, the project was able to push through and make a positive impact on the lives of the people in Lamnig. The concreted local access road will benefit the community for years to come and serves as a testament to the power of unity and community development.
