Lumpia: A Crunchy and Delicious Filipino Spring Roll

a type of spring roll filled with meat, vegetables, and sometimes noodles.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 pound shrimp, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1/2 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 package (25 pieces) lumpia wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, onion, garlic, shredded cabbage, julienned carrots, chopped green onions, and chopped celery.
  2. Add soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the mixture. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  3. Lay out a lumpia wrapper on a flat surface and put 1-2 tablespoons of the filling on the center of the wrapper.
  4. Roll the wrapper tightly, tucking in the sides to create a sealed roll. Brush the edges with beaten egg to help seal the lumpia.
  5. Repeat the process with the rest of the filling and lumpia wrappers.
  6. In a frying pan, heat enough oil over medium heat to deep fry the lumpia.
  7. Fry the lumpia in batches until they turn golden brown. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with sweet and sour sauce or vinegar and garlic dipping sauce. Enjoy your delicious lumpia!
